Ottawa Electrician FAQ
Can a homeowner do their own electrical work in Ontario?
Homeowners are allowed to do their own electrical work inside their home. They must take out permits and pass inspections just like a typical contractor. It’s always best to consult your local electrical experts to insure safety and quality of work.
Are permits required for electrical work?
Small jobs that involve replacing outlets, or light fixtures do not require permits. Most jobs that are more involved, ex: adding a circuit. Or changing any part of your electrical system will require inspection. Consult your electrician to determine what is involved.
What if I do electrical work without an Inspection?
It is possible to get an electrical permit after the work has been completed. Typically the process requires a permit for a “rough in” inspection. Then another to pass for a “final inspection”. If you skip the process however, ESA may require proof of proper electrical installation. Leaving the work visible is important to allow passing of the permit.
Why should I hire a liscenced electical contractor?
In Ontario, the only legally authorized companies able to work in your home are LEC’s. It’s important to ask for their ECRA/ESA licence number to make sure their credintialls are legitmate. All licensed contractors are:
- required to pull permits
- fully insured
- qaulified to perfrom electrical work
- able to provide refernce
- offer certifatce of inspection
Most Reviewed Electrician in Ottawa
I added an addition to the back of my home and needed electrical work done. Mike was recommended to me by a friend in the trades. He was very easy to deal with. The work done was very professional. Highly recommend.
I called Mike to get pot lights installed in my kitchen. I am so happy with the job they did. My kitchen is so bright now. Everything was very clean when they were done too. Thanks
I had a plug that sparked when i plugged my computer in. Power wouldn't go back on, I thought i had a serious problem. An electrician came by the next day and found a problem in the socket. I am thankful it was not a big deal. Thanks Mike
We have called Mike Fuller Electric twice now and have received great service each time. We were told how much it would cost ahead of time and that's how much we were charged. The technicians were on time and service was friendly, efficient and thorough - thanks!
